Sprinters delight on first Track Meeting

JuryWith a beautiful sunny weather and about 18 degrees C the Track Meeting season of 2013 started off. With 529 registration there was a nice buzz around the Track. The sprint events were especially populair, with 13 series 100 m and 10 series 200 m. Also the long jump was busy with 30 woman and 19 men. The results were well worth mentioning, especially on the sprint events. The evening started off with a bang on the 110 m hurdles. Koen Smet did it in 13.70 sec., enough to qualify for the EC under 23. Not much later 'meisje B' Janke Strijp (15.28) and Lieke Mulder (15.35) had excellent times as well on the 100 hurdles.
Koen Smet was also very quick on the 100 m flat: 10.72 was the third time ever on the Track Meetings. The Phanos A-junior, Joshua Gul, was a good second with 10.95, followed by Shaquille Brahm, U-Track's latest talent (11.08, brings him in second place in the 'jongen B' best athletes list). Also Eva Hovenkamp impressed us by conquering the 2nd place on the 'meisjes B' list with a result of 12.22.Sprint
Shaquille and Eva performed very well (22.93 and 25.10) on the double distance, which was won by Roben Popkema in 22.71.
On the middle distances we had 2 ladies drawing special attention to them. In the third serie 800 m, Maureen Koster registered 2.05.29, a result well enough to qualify for the EC under 23. The 1500 m we had the honour of registering a new National record (category 45+) for Nicole Weijling-Dissel with 4.46.52.
The final track event, the 3000 m had 2 full series (with respectively 28 and 29 athletes). In the first serie two men finished within 9 minutes, Albert Meijer (8.48.71) and Mark van Kessel (8.53.18). Not much later we saw the first woman finishing as well. The Belgium athlete Barbare Maveau, put the second best time ever 9.04 during the Track Meetings in our best atheltes list.
Also the field events showed us some very strong results, especially amoung the younsters. Lieke Mulder, who already showed a peak performance on the hurdles, jumped over 1.70m meter on the High Jump. This brings her on top of our Track Meetings list 'meisjes A'. 'Jongen B' Rody Wolff was the only one to leave the bar on thw holders at 1.90m. Hellas athlete Robin Coops won the Long Jump event with a result of 6.37 m. By the woman Femke Klop noted 5.52. Two 'meisjes B', Tara Yora and Judith Rasch passed the 5 meter mark (5,06 and 5.03).
Last but not least: also the Hamer Throw event knew a very high level. From the small group of woman who participated in the Hamer Throw event, four of them (Martine van Beek, 'meisje A' Annemieke Efdee, her sister and 'meisje B' Marije Efdee, and Lisa Wassenaar) crossed the 40 meters line. In the group of men, Denzel Commenius was the best by far. Last year, while still being a 'jongen B' he already threw 72 m. This year as a 'jongen A' the weight is one kilo more and he already managed to throw the projectile 67.19 m away. A promissing start for the young season.
